This month’s bumper Christmas issue of Consumer Choice, from the CAI, is packed with the latest news and information for consumers. As the festive season approaches, we give consumers our list of top seasonal Christmas tips along with fantastic consumer features on an array of subjects. And of course we publish the latest independent lab test results on a host of consumer products ensuring that readers only buy the very best product that the Irish market has to offer.
With the New Year only weeks away we look at what’s available to consumers who may have resolved togive up smoking in 2012. We carry a three-page feature with advice on quitting. We also conduct aprice survey of nicotine replacement products and find, yet again that Irish consumers are losing out when compared to our UK neighbours. Of the 26 nicotine replacement products in our survey, we found that prices are almost 50% more on average in Ireland than in the UK. In one case the price differential was over 90%.
With so much of Christmas revolving around food, Consumer Choice looks at portion sizes and gives consumers some advice on how to control their food intake over the holiday. We also explain the QUID system of labeling which determines how food manufacturers label ingredients in the products they produce.
As household budgets continue to be squeezed, Consumer Choice brings you the best in money saving tips and personal finance advice. This month we look at the Small Claims Court system and outline how it has changed in recent years. We also carry a feature on popular online deal sites like Groupon, and explain how consumers can best bag a bargain by using such sites.
Price rights are central to our lifestyle features this month. As consumers take to the shops before Christmas, we publish a timely reminder of exactly what rights consumers have in relation to the prices they see in shops. We also bring readers a feature on clothes care labeling. We demystify the clothes care symbols that are shown on garments. And staying on clothes, we look at the new trend of clothes swapping and how consumers can freshen up their wardrobe by swapping with other like-minded people.
Our product tests this month look at food processors, media players, home cinema systems and espresso machines. We also give our independent verdict on the new iPhone 4S as well as Apple’s new range of iPods. And of course our last issue of the year would not be complete without our Choice Buy Roundup 2011 featuring the year’s must-have products and gadgets.
